The Full Moon in the Houses in Astrology

Full Moons occur roughly once every month. Twice in a month is called a Blue Moon. While the New Moon is introspective, the Full Moon is public and the days around it may feel electric. The Full Moon can guide you, to help you release, to let go so you can move toward what you desire.

What is the Full Moon?

The Moon ☾ is never observed alone, but as a reflection and result of its dance with the Sun ☉ from our position here on Earth ♁. As the Moon waxes and culminates to a Full Moon, you notice your own tendency towards greater emotion, bias and subjective, and things coming to an end or to a head that you're not feeling quite ready for.

Even though things seem heightened during the Full Moon, it is only the expression of it that is new. The truth is, the desire for change has been sitting with us for a while now, but we haven’t yet had the energy or impetus to do anything about it. Then the Full Moon comes along and shines its subtle call!

Full moons occur when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in exact opposite positions in the Zodiac. The sign the full moon occurs in is the sign the Moon is in. Full moons are times of endings, culminations, and highly emotional energy.

This can make full moons a challenge.

The easiest way to use a full moon properly is to focus on the house in your natal chart the full moon occurs in. The areas of life ruled by that house get amplified, and you can focus on keeping calm and focusing positively on related themes.

What Does The Full Moon Sign Mean?

The Sign of a Full Moon guides us to align with the season, its themes, messages, and to connect deeper to the world around you. The signs point the way to alignment with Mother Earth and its natural cycles.

The Sign can also be used archetypically. For example, when you wish to embark on a lifestyle overhaul, you can utilize the Scorpio Full Moon to do that.

As with the subconscious and all things ruled by the Moon, your focus is everything.

Full Moon in the 1st House

The 1st house is your persona, physical body, and general outlook on life.

It is a good time to put your needs first, but doing so with respect for others will take you further. This period helps you see yourself, your actions, and your direction much more clearly...but only if you put aside excessive emotion to see exactly what's working and what's not so that you can let go of what you do not need to make way for new things on a new cycle through your own chart.

Shining A Light on Your Full Moon
Grow self-assertiveness, and avoid any infantile outbursts. Have an outlet for your emotions that is healthy and positive so you don't blow up on anyone, and aren't as sensitive. Be flexible and open to other avenues for results that you hadn't thought of, and try to see anything unexpected as an opportunity. All that aside, when a Full Moon occurs in your First House, what a time to feel doubly the confident expressive vibe that you naturally radiate. Whatever you put out, you receive. It is a wonderful time to express your vitality and experience warm interactions with people.

Full Moon in the 2nd House

The 2nd house is the house of values and self-esteem, so a full moon in your 2nd house can raise issues of insecurity. Sharing issues come into focus, as do issues of power–what’s yours and what’s mine. Your comfort zones matter, and now is the time to take care of your own needs without eclipsing the needs of others.

Shining A Light on Your Full Moon:
Get grounded. As you feel more grounded, this can help protect you from feeling so insecure and not care as much what other people think of you. You may also want to slow things down and give yourself permission to take your time. This likely isn't a time for you to be pushy and make things go faster. Try to reconnect with the present moment and be still. As for your finances, try to be as smart as you can with decisions so you can make them logically instead of emotionally.

Full Moon in the 3rd House

The 3rd house rules communication, so a full moon in your 3rd house can make you more expressive with what you feel.

You are pushed to find a balance now between mundane life — all those errands and daily tasks — and everything else. Do what needs to be done so that you can free yourself up for more adventurous and fulfilling activities. You may read into what other people say a little too much, and can be easily wounded by words.

Shining A Light on Your 3th House:
Your head and your heart are likely connected, so try to use that to your advantage. Figure out how you really feel about certain relationships, projects, and situations, and find ways of opening up communication in a healthy way. Your mind may need you to keep busy to use up your mental energy, but your emotions also need a healthy outlet. Try to use more of your logical mind.

Full Moon in the 4th House

The 4th house rules your emotions, home, and family, so a full moon in your 4th house can make you much more emotional.

Everything you feel can be stronger than usual, and it can be difficult to separate yourself from such strong feelings. Your complete attention could be taken up with a home, family, or property matter. You can experience developments at home, with family, or that impact you at your core and make you feel more shaky internally.

Shining A Light on Your 4th House:

A healthy, positive outlet for your emotions is very important, and this can help you express what you feel. The most important thing though is to have a solid support system already in place. If you feel supported emotionally, you can feel even and calm. If you don't, then you can be extra sensitive and emotional. Issues in your support system may become more obvious so you can deal with them. Work on strengthening yourself internally, your internal foundation, so you're in a better position.

Full Moon in the 5th House

The 5th house in astrology rules our creativity, sense of fun, romance, children, business or anything we make. A full moon in your 5th house can spotlight any issues in these areas.

the Full Moon in the 5th house is shining a light on what you truly desire. You may struggle with getting work done, and only want time to play.

Shining A Light on Your 5th House:

Plan and make time to create something, a business, baby, work of art... Looking for love? Then this Full Moon would be the perfect time to put yourself out there, spruce up an online dating profile, say yes to a fun night out or go to your most favourite place. Prioritize what's most important so you know exactly what you need to work on. If issues pop up in relationships, this may be exposing already existing issues that need to be addressed.

Full Moon in the 6th House

The 6th house in astrology shows our daily routines, health, and workmates or colleagues, so a full moon in your 6th house can bring challenges with your routines, work, or at work.

Extra stress now can lead to feeling rundown physically. Health, exercise, and bosses...are just some examples of a Full Moon transiting your sixth house. If it activates other personal planets, or if it’s an eclipse, the more intense or dramatic upsets here can be. Anything you have been putting off come up to the surface with regards to your health and well being. Planning during this time can feel even more effective, as you can use this surge of emotional energy to make positive changes to your routines. This may also be a time when a work project comes to fruition or completion.

Shining a Light on your 6th House:
Schedules, pen and paper organisers (and this journal), and planning will help you more than ever during this time. Stress is a sign that you're pushing too hard and probably in the wrong direction. If you hate your work, try to either find new work you do love, or make more time in your daily life for what you do love so you can better tolerate what you don't.

Full Moon in the 7th House

The 7th house rules your relationships, so a full moon in your 7th house can bring out issues in your relationships.

All important relationships, including important one-to-one relationship–a marriage partner, significant other, business partner, or an adversary, as well as its accompanying commitments, courts, legal documentation, desires, contracts and promises, fall into the 7th House.

You may be more impatient (emotional) with others. But you may have to focus on others instead of yourself (or your own emotions), and give way more than you get (put aside your emotions), which can make you feel out of balance. Chaos can cause indecisiveness and insecurity.

Shining a Light on your 7th House:
Any issues with you vs me come up in your relationships now. Topics here can feel like a heavy load, and the key is to compromise and negotiate, or even take a step back. If you feel unbalanced, focus on the cause. Are you giving too much? Is there a drama person you need to avoid? Is there chaos that can be resolved with compromise, or do you need to walk away from the situation?

Full Moon in the 8th House

The 8th house shows legacies, joint assets, other people's resources, loans, wills, inheritance, sexual desire, intuition, taboo subjects, truth seeking, investigations, change, alimony, and what you gain as a result of other people.

The 8th house can seem like a dark house as it shows what we hold deep within, so a full moon in your 8th house can dig up all sorts of deep emotions that you've been avoiding. You can feel uncomfortable emotionally, sway between emotional extremes, and struggle with emotional control.

Shining a Light on your 8th House:
This is usually your hardest full moon of the year, and it's one that usually requires you to transform in some way.

The 8th house is ruled by Pluto, planet of transformation, so this is how to use the energy. It needs to be something that will last and that is done starting from the core.

Don't avoid it; make time for it. You find unexpected expense, again linked to someone else in some way. It is the perfect time to clear out your storage space, whether in your closets, on your digital files, or in your emotional excess baggage, and the like.

Full Moon in the 9th House

The 9th house rules your beliefs, so a full moon in your 9th house can make you more focused on your beliefs.

You may commit to them fully, but can be preachy and condescending in that way. Or you may feel no connection to them anymore, and ditch them. You become attracted to spirituality, big picture thinking, travel, culture.

Shining a Light on your 9th House:

When it comes to your beliefs, focus on the ones that jive with who you are now, and don't stress too much if that means changing them. In a way, you are seeking a milestone or aspiration in some way. What is your biggest aspiration right now, and what steps can you take to make this happen? If you want space, try to find some within the limitations you have. Just a little bit of breathing room can help.

Full Moon in the 10th House

The 10th house rules your goals, ambitions, and direction, so a full moon in your 10th house can bring developments with what you're striving for.

If you haven't done things right, you can experience setbacks, delays, and failure, and this can be deeply emotional. You invite public recognition. During a hard transit (meaning difficult aspects to your natal placements) this Full Moon in the 10th house can bring an end to a work project or a career. Yet it always reveals your true surrounding your life path and career direction.

Shining a Light on your 10th House:

You need to be more patient with yourself if you're not at the destination yet. It's okay to still be on the journey, and celebrate your small wins. Recognize all you've already done to this point. If you're uncertain and emotional, you may need to change what you're working toward. If you experience setbacks, delays, and failure, this may mean you need a whole new direction or approach, or that your heart just isn't in it. If you do it right, this can be a time of progress.

Full Moon in the 11th House

The Full Moon occurs in your 11 House that rules friends and dreams.

You may feel fretful about your dreams or future, be vacillating, and extra emotional about it. You desire what brings you pleasure–your hobbies, fun, etc. Now you realize that the role you play in others’ lives is an important element in your overall happiness.

Shining A Light on Your 11th house:
Try not to give up on your dreams at the moment. You need to get through the emotional period first so you can make logical decisions. Remind yourself of the good things you've already accomplished and of the way your dreams make you feel normally. If you're defensive, this is likely reflecting insecurity and self-doubt. What's causing that? If there are issues with friends or groups, these have likely been there all along and now require attention to be worked on, or to walk away.

Full Moon in the 12th House

The 12th house is the house of endings, so a full moon in the 12th house can show a period of major endings, and this can be emotional. You may also be more aware of your subconscious motivations, desires, and issues. You may want to help others as much as you can, but sacrifice yourself as a result. The past may be an issue in some way.

Shining A Light on Your 12th House:
This time can seem as if you have an overwhelming need to be alone. You’ve been busy with all sorts of everyday activities, deeply involved in your work and routines. Get some time alone, to yourself, as much as you can. Try to work on healthy boundaries with others so you're not ignoring yourself, and if any past issues come back, work on resolving them once and for all now.
