October 2024: New and Full Moons

ECLIPSE SEASON continues with the New and Full Moons in October 2024.

October 2024’s Libra New Moon is a solar eclipse sequel—it is the second solar eclipse after the 14 October 2023, annular solar eclipse. If you look back, can you connect the dots to your epiphanies? Are you having any a-ha moments regarding your relationships and partnerships?
Are you feeling the energy? You don’t need astrologers to tell you that THINGS are full on!

NEW MOON 3 October 2024 IS AT 11º LIBRA

A Partial Solar Eclipse and NEW MOON occurs on 3 October 2024. (I’m going with Singapore/Bali time for this post). It’s not total, but annular (from the Latin anulus) so you’ll see a "ring of fire" effect as the Moon appears like a dark disk on top of a larger disk.

During the same period, a beautiful Grand Trine pattern lights up the first few days of October—Saturn in Pisces, Venus in Scorpio, Mars in Cancer. A Grand Trine offers a smooth easy flow of energy that helps bring out the better qualities. Under a Grand Trine in water signs, we can feel more intuitive, connected, and compassionate. It’s a good time to work on releasing old traumas and forgiving others, and ourselves, so that we can drop old baggage.

Best Practices for a LIBRA New Moon

We ALL have Libra somewhere in our chart (and hence our lives).

Reflections and questions:

  • Eclipses are huge times for endings/beginnings. What’s ending or beginning for good for you this new Moon?

  • What can you release? In Libra it serves us to relinquish tight grip control and old matters in RELATIONSHIPS and PARTNERSHIPS.

  • Libra in lower vibes tends to bend over backwards for others. If you are in VICTIM consciousness, you will CREATE your own perpetrators, whether it manifests as an actual person you have to “deal with” or societal issues you struggle against. How can you release victim consciousness? It doesn’t matter that you don’t THINK you are a victim, as we all INHERITED some fear mentalities, for eg from our parents. It matters that you actively work to start from an empowered “I” instead of victimised “you”.

  • What internal resources do you want to increase? Intuition and creativity? Resilience and positivity?

What is a Solar Eclipse?

A New Moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact same position in the Zodiac (called a conjunction). New Moons are related to beginnings and have high energy.

It is called a Solar Eclipse when a New Moon is near the Lunar Nodes (within 18.5 degrees of the Lunar Nodes, or the points in the Moon's orbit where the Moon crosses the ecliptic).

What does it mean?

Eclipses usually coincides with new beginnings in our lives. To create space for new opportunities or connections, we usually have an ending of sorts to go along with it.

As an eclipse brings intense pressure and discomfort, eclipses accelerate our growth. We are prompted to let go of outdated patterns, embrace life upgrades, and cultivate heightened self-awareness. This is why eclipses feel like wildcards—eclipse seasons is usually characterised by rapid, unforeseen changes. Within these are unique opportunities for personal and collective transformation, offering powerful breakthroughs if you commit to the work and embrace change.

ECLIPSE SEASON AND TENSE CONFIGURATION FOR ALL OF OCTOBER

The New Moon is a great time to carve out time to clarify your intentions for the month ahead.

In Libra, this is a powerful time to reconnect and reflect on your personal integrity and values. Are you living according to your personal value system and taking aligned action daily? Or do you tend to accede to “the other”—the other person, the other partner, the other client, and whatever else that comes up on the schedule? Libra is a cardinal sign, and prefers initiating forward movement. With New and Full Moons in Libra, you can align your thoughts and actions to make changes in your life now.

Sun in Libra will square Mars in Cancer, coinciding with the waxing Quarter Moon phase. Things start to heat up, anything that could heat up. This is a tense aspect that can kick up disagreements and discord in your close relationships.

This Sun-square-Mars will cover the whole of October. This will form a T-square aspect—Moon in Capricorn will square Sun in Libra and will oppose Mars in Cancer. A T-square is a pattern of high tension that is TAUT and strives to find release. Mars in Cancer wants to fight for those you love and your sense of security. And, if any of those feel threatened under this eclipse, you’re ready to fight back. People can be more reactive and quick tempered, so find a healthy outlet for your anger or excess energy if possible.

More globally, this period could see escalated wars amongst families and tribes (such as in the Middle East again). But we may also see also action (Mars) to heal (Cancer) the children of war.

This takes us to 11 October 2024. Then, still in the T-square, Moon conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn. This is an aspect no one alive today will ever see again, as hereafter (13 September) Pluto will transit out of Capricorn into Aquarius.

Continuing that formation, Mars will oppose Pluto, the planet of destruction.

FULL MOON 17 October 2024 IS AT 11º LIBRA

Later in October, the FULL MOON occurs on 17 October 2024. (I’m going with Singapore/Bali time for this post).

On a Full Moon, the Moon is opposite the Sun. Both will square Mars in Cancer AND square to Pluto in Capricorn.

As we reach the end of October, Mars moves direct in that opposition to Pluto. (This peaks on 2 November 2024.)

Pluto will stay at the Anaretic degree of Capricorn until 19 November 2024.

So October has hot and explosive themes with Sun hitting the warlike planets Mars and Pluto.

We’re living against a backdrop of fraught political affairs. The world feels on edge.

The end of 2024

The big planets are shifting, and along with it the structures of our world. Right now, Pluto is back in Capricorn, but it is set to go back into Aquarius (re-enters Aquarius 19th Nov). Neptune enters Aries at the end of March 2025, practically on the solar eclipse that will follow on from this solar eclipse on 2 October 2024.

There’s a whole to process, and I’m not going to try to explain or even think I can at the moment. Most of us are sensing we are in a most pivotal period globally, and on individual scales, we are ALL going through “make or break” decisions in our own lives.

It’s down to the you and me, the individual, to harness our own energies and use it for good. Which is to release the negative thoughts and behaviours that we’re so darned used to doing, and enact positive habits that carry us to our goals.

SELF-CARE WITH THE NEW/FULL MOON

  • Affirmations. Libra energy flows better when it integrates its opposite sign of Aries. Speak positive “I am” statements to affirm your goals for partnerships. Example: “I am able to recognise what works for me and you that is in our highest good.”

  • Power Phrases. In the heat of the moment it’s easy to say things that you regret or that stutter the relationship. Have easy phrases you can reach for that are non-confrontational and actively cooperative. For example: “Let’s find something that works for us”.

  • Reflect on how you value fairness, equitability, and peace. Peace can’t exist for long without justice, and relationships don’t last very long without either.

  • Journalling. Venus, the dispositor of the 3 October New Moon, is currently transiting the fixed waters of Scorpio. This means this is a potent time of psychological exploration. Dive into your mind and its inner workings and purge its shadows. Venus in Scorpio may mark a time of considering and even acting on that which is ordinarily taboo.
